Not a Fluke

For any doubting Thomas' out there who might have thought Blake rolling over was just a fluke... she rolled over two more times this morning. And there were witnesses besides her proud Momma! Blake and I came over to Grandma and Pappaw's house for breakfast today. Yummy cinnamon rolls, eggs, and coffee, quite a nice treat for this mom who usually just goes for a bowl of cereal these days. Afterwards, while playing on the playmat and having tummy time, she pushed her feet, tucked her shoulder and flipped over to her back! In case there was any doubt left in anyone's heads, we put her back on her tummy, and she rolled over again! I think she has proven herself, don't you?

Also, Tim, Blake and I went to a wedding this past weekend. Tim's work buddy Rene got married, and the reception was a blend of Tejano/cumbia music (I hope that's spelled right), country, and hip hop. We had a really good time. We sat as far away from the speakers as we could get, had cotton in Blake's ears and really tried to be careful having such a little girl at a big, kinda loud party. Blake slept through most of the music, but when she was awake kicked her feet and wiggled to the music. She just might have a little Latin diva in her!

Strong Girl!

Blake rolled over today! She was on her belly for tummy time on her lamb mat, and she kept rocking her body. She has already been able to roll to her side, but today she was so determined to get off her tummy that she rolled onto her back!! We have already thought her to be very strong-willed, and it seems like she will be the kind of girl to do things on her own time and in her own way. I am so proud!!

Future Red Raider

With 2 Texas Tech grads for parents, Blake already has her college colors all picked out! She wears her Red Raider colors with pride!! Tim can't wait for next football season when he'll have a new buddy to sit with on the couch and watch the games with.

Blake is 1 month old today! We went to church this morning and then to Grandma and Pappaw's house for lunch.

All About Blake

Blake has been out of my belly for 4 weeks now and she will be one month old on Easter Sunday, April 12th. I am loving my time with her and am learning so much about my little girl (Here is where Tim would say his little girl!) Here are some of the things we've learned so far...

Every one and every book says babies don't really smile til about 6 weeks old, but Blake smiles when either mommy or daddy kisses her! She also is beginning to smile when she hears us talk to her! She must be G/T (gifted and talented for those non-teachers) and ahead of the game!

What is left of her umbilical stump WILL NOT FALL OFF! Again, the books say it should fall off by 4 weeks old and babies will have their belly button. I have doctored that sucker every diaper change with rubbing alcohol and it is 4 weeks later! Why won't it go away????

Blake's fingernails are growing like crazy, I have to really work to keep her nails short, BUT her toenails have not grown. There is almost no white on her toenails and I have not had to clip or file them down once. One of life's mysteries?!?!

When Blake cries, she sounds like a lamb. mmbbbbaaaaaaaaaaaaa. It makes me smile, and not that I like her crying, but it sounds so cute! Don't worry-we don't let her cry for long.

She is getting better about baths. Blake still cries when she initially feels the water, but stops crying soon after. Maybe she'll enjoy baths after all!

I've said it before, but I'll say it again... Blake is quite the wiggler. Now that she is discovering her arms and hands, she swings them around and up and down, and kicks her feet like crazy. Sometimes she is hard to hang on to! She is just getting to the point where she can interact with her play gym.

Sleeping Beauty

Being just short of 4 weeks old (which Blake will be tomorrow), days are spent mostly sleeping! I spend most of my day watching her and admiring how wonderful she is. Everyone keeps reminding me that she is only supposed to be almost 2 weeks old had she been born on her due date, so I know that makes a difference in her timeline for growth. I know the days will come when I wish she would sleep more, but for now I can't help but wish for a little more awake time. I cherish all my moments with Blake, but when she is awake I make the most of every second talking, singing, and narrating to her about any and everything I can think of, be it 9 in the morning, 2 in the afternoon, or 4 in the morning! Here is our sleeping beauty.


In so many ways she is like her father! It makes me laugh to see some of the ways she likes to sleep. This one in particular is soooooo Tim! I definitely see parts of me in her too, the noises she makes in her sleep are just like me. Tim laughs at that because we both make little moaning noises as we get comfy. I think she is a great mix of both of us!

One time in elementary school, when I was picked for Student of the Week, we were required to bring pictures of ourselves and our families to tell about us. Needless to say, I got right to work right away creating a poster of family photographs and writing captions for each picture. My favorite one I titled "Daddy Bed" and contained a photo of me as a baby taking a nap on my daddy's chest. Here is our attempt to recreate one of my favorite memories 25 years later!

3 weeks old!

Blake is 3 weeks old today! She is quite the wiggle-worm, and is getting really strong. She can already turn herself to her side when she's really determined! As soon as we figure out the shoulder, she's going to be able to roll to her tummy. It's hard to believe that she hasn't always been a part of our lives, how did we ever live without her? We love her so much! Can you blame us??

Every time I try to catch her at a good time for pictures, she falls asleep anyway. Hopefully as she gets older, she cooperate and help her momma out! I keep trying to take a picture that shows off her dimples! She has one on each cheek and looks so cute with those and her butt-chin (cleft-chin as my mom calls it, as she doesn't approve of that b-word!)

We did take some pictures after bath time today. She still hates taking a bath and cries the whole time! The crying automatically stops just as soon as the towel is wrapped around her! She didn't get that from me because I love baths. Hopefully she will learn to appreciate them, or at least tolerate them.
