360 Degrees

Of course as a new mom I think everything Blake does is amazing, but this I have to share! Blake was playing on her jungle playmat a little while ago, I placed her face up with her head in the middle of the mat. I guess she wanted to be sure she saw everything hanging above because she scooted her body using her feet and legs all the way around the mat. Her head never left it's spot directly in the center, but her feet and body wiggled themselves around in a complete circle! It took her about 10-15 minutes, but she eventually moved herself back to the spot I put her in. Too funny!

Field Day

Blake and I went up to Milam's 2nd and 3rd grade Field Day today. It was a really nice morning, with a cool breeze and temps in the 70s. Blake did very well and slept for some of the time and just contentedly looked around at everything and everybody who held her. All the teachers and parents said she looks like Tim, and even some of the kids said she didn't look like me! My kiddos were so excited to see Blake and just about every student ran up to hug me. It's amazing how much they like you when you don't teach them everyday! They dedicated their Tug-of-War victory to "Mrs. Trevino's baby!" It was alot of fun to go see them all. It makes me feel good to know that everybody realizes now that I didn't have the perfect class of perfect, well-behaved kids while they didn't, but that we worked really hard and my strictness (if that's a word) made my kiddos behave! I so much appreciate my wonderful sub who is allowing me to stay home while she teaches for me!! Thanks Wendy!

This is just a picture of Blake relaxing with Tim on the couch. It was just a cute, content look so I had to include it. Definitely lookin' like her Daddy! Good thing I like the way he looks!!!

First Lake Trip

We spent Memorial Day weekend at Lake Buchanan at my parents' lakehouse. It was a fun get-together of the McLane side of the family. Katie, Hector, and Santiago and Travis all came from the Houston area, so we had a full house! Alot of the weekend was overcast and chilly, so we didn't get in the water, but Blake showed off her swimsuit and shades!

Here is Blake with her cousin Santi, who is 5 weeks older. We were hanging out on the dock Saturday afternoon when all of the sudden the storm blew in and it started pouring! We had to race back up to the house with towels over the babies!

Aren't they cool cats?

Two monkeys monkeying around! Santiago and Blake played on their matching monkey mats!

Blake loved this swing on the back porch! We had a relaxing weekend if you couldn't tell already.

Our little peanut loves her daddy!

I took more pictures, not near as many as Katie!!, but this gives a good showing of our weekend! This last picture is Blake during her first boat ride! Tim calls this a diva pose.... she's really sleeping under those shades too! I guess you would say she enjoyed the ride, since she basically slept the whole time. Pappaw drove the boat slowly for the babies, but I bet when they get older they'll want him to go really fast. The lake is going to be so much fun with two little ones keeping us busy!

Playdate

We went to our friends Tori and Greg's house last night for dinner. They are our new friends who live just down the street that intersects with our street. Tori and I have been taking walks together, and Tim and Greg like to play golf together. Their daughter Geneva is 2 weeks old, and is Blake's first friend (outside of family members of course!) Here is their first picture together.
Blake and Geneva's birth weights and heights were almost identical, within 1 ounce and .25 inch of each other! They are going to be great buddies! We were joking last night wondering who would be the instigator between the two - I'm sure they'll think of lots to get into together. Last night they even fussed at the same times, it was kind of funny. After a yummy meal and a rushed dessert due to Blake needing to get home, Blake immediately fell asleep on the quick trip home.
Hopefully we didn't wear out our welcome!! Wouldn't you know that Blake didn't fuss anymore once we stepped out of their house to get home.

A Little Playtime

Here is my 2 feet of sunshine playing this morning on her jungle playmat. She wasn't smiling as big as she usually does, but any smile is wonderful!! She is also really starting to talk - coo, and make noises - but again, not as much in this video as she can. But you get the picture!! Enjoy.

No Big News

I am trying to blog more often, but I don't have much more new to report!

Blake is getting stronger and bigger everyday. Her smiles are so big they make me so happy, and I can't wait to hear her laugh. She is still rolling over from tummy to back, just don't expect her to perform if you haven't seen it yet, then she won't do it. She sleeps for 6 hours at night, which is great, then it's back to every 3 to 4 hours from there.

Blake is going to the lake for the first time this weekend, so I will post pictures of her at Lake Buchanan when we return!

Hard Day - maybe again?

Well a couple hours after yesterday's post, the day definitely turned around. Blake seemed fine, I had given her the doctor's recommended dose of Tylenol to help just in case the shots made her fussy. Well did they ever! Around 2:00 yesterday, Blake started screaming crying! She was so fussy, and that little girl can be quite loud when she wants to be. Tim and I took turns trying to calm her down, trying every trick we knew of. Finally she calmed down and fell asleep by rocking in the recliner. She then slept until I was able to give her another dose of Tylenol. The only problem was she would only stay quiet and asleep laying on my chest. My day was spent laying on the couch with Blake on my chest because that was the only way she was calm!

She seemed to be back to her normal self last night. After her bathtime and getting ready for bed, I even got a smile out of her, so that made me feel better! We read a book and cuddled til bedtime. She slept well and seems to be back to happy Blake today!

Maybe I spoke too soon for today.... Blake is still a little fussy! I'll let you know later how this day turns out. Thank goodness she won't receive any more shots for 2 more months.

2 month check-up

Hair by Karen - no appointments necessary! Isn't this a cute hairdo???
Grandma did Blake's hair this morning in an attempt to tame the wildness that is her hair. I love the faux-hawk!

Blake had her two month appointment with her pediatrician this morning. Blake is now 24 inches long, 11 pounds 13 ounces, with a 38 cm head. She is in the 95th percentile for length, 80th percentile for weight, and 30th percentile of head size. He said she was long and lean and very healthy. I was excited to hear the exact numbers of progress she's made in height and weight, and I knew she had a little head. No worries, her head seems to be growing and making the progress it needs, it's just a little head! Then it was shot time. Blake was a very good patient today, and spent most of her check-up cooperating and talking to the doctor while he examined her eyes, ears, head, tummy, back and everything else. He knows about our family history of craniosynostosis, and knows to keep a close watch on her head growth. The nurse was very sweet and Blake was in a good mood, until the needles went in. She received 4 vaccinations this morning, 3 shots and 1 oral. Blake cried very loudly until the nurse finished and I could hold her again. Then both of our tears stopped. I know I'm a cry baby, but I couldn't help getting tears in my eyes watching my little girl cry.

Here we are at home, happy again, dry-eyed and blogging about the doctor's visit.

The doctor did say the right side of Blake's head is slightly flatter than the left, which didn't surprise me either. When in a swing, carrier, bouncer, or laying down, she always leans and lays her head to her right side. He said to be sure to give her lots of tummy time and let her "stand" (aka someone hold her up to her feet) so she can spend lots of her awake time not on the right side of her head, which I do. And when I do lay her down for naps or to sleep at night, I always try to rotate sides and make sure she lays on the left too, but she always ends up back on the right. We'll work on it!

2 months old

Blake has blessed our lives for 2 months today! She continues to grow and grow, wiggle, coo and grunt. Alot of times, when she is held by someone to their shoulder, she will arch her back and lean away from whoever is holding her, stretch her neck and look from side to side, and put her feet down on the person's lap and push almost like she can stand up. I can't believe how strong and active she is.
See her dimples! One on each cheek plus the chin dimple ... I love them!

Blake's two month check up with the pediatrician is this Thursday. We are anxious to find out how much she has grown. Here's our little peanut posing in the flower headband from Tracey. She didn't know what to think about what I put on her head.

And she couldn't take the photo shoot any longer, as she grabs for the flower....

First Mother's Day

Today was a great day! Blake wanted to wear all her clothes that had to do with mommy. I won't take it personally that the first outfit was pooped on and she had to be put in the second one. I know she must have just wanted to be sure she wore both today!
Blake is all smiles these days! Well mostly smiles.... as long as she isn't hot, tired, or hungry! I love my daughter more than anything. I feel so blessed to have her, which is the best gift today. I have someone to be a mom to!

This second outfit says "I love Mommy." Blake knows me so well already! She gave me a delicious triple chocolate cake for Mother's Day. Tim cooked a yummy breakfast of eggs, sausage, and cinnamon rolls, and a dinner of ribeye steaks, corn on the cob, and jalapeno poppers! He says Blake was a good helper too! The cake was a wonderful dessert. I had an absolutely wonderful day. I think motherhood is the best thing ever.

As I put Blake in her crib tonight, I looked over at Tim with amazement at how big she is getting. She is asleep right now curled up on her side like a big girl!

Naked Jay Bird

Nope, not really! But I made ya look!

These are pictures after bath time, which she is really starting to like. Not love, she she likes them alright.... She is much happier with a diaper back on and wrapped up in a towel or robe. That means she'll stay modest her whole life right? No Blake Going Wild! Ha ha!!

Weekend with Bubba

Uncle Travis was here for the weekend. He came in late Friday night, so we saw him first early Saturday morning. We had breakfast at Grandma and Pappaw's house while Tim worked. We just wanted to hang out with Bubba as much as possible. Here is Blake in the morning with Bubba, or Uncle Travis. You can tell she looks very comfy! (arms-behind-head relaxed!)
On Saturday alone before 2:00ish, Blake went through 3 outfits. You can see 2 of them in these pictures, the second one being a pink dress circa the 80's that Katie and I wore. Man, can babies make a mess on clothes, both from the top and bottom if you know what I mean!!
We basically had a laid-back weekend. After Tim got off work, we all eventually migrated to our house. The boys (Tim, Travis, and Pappaw) worked hard washing 3 cars (Grandpa Ricardo-I think you would approve, the cars look great!), repairing the side mirror to the navigator, while Grandma and I sat with Blake on the porch watching, after sweeping the driveway to our house.

(Makeup never even made it close to my face - sorry!)
Sunday, we hung out again watching the Mavericks play after church and lunch. We ate many yummy meals this weekend and are so glad that Bubba came to visit! Why isn't Texas smaller so everyone can be closer??
